Joyful Becoming
Hello! My name is Parminder Randhawa. One thing that has become abundantly clear to me over the last fourteen years of working in this healing realm is that we are all in a continual process of becoming. This becoming is not of becoming something other than who we currently are, but rather a process of unfolding and stepping into more and more of who we truly are and have always been underneath the veils of learned patterns, wounds, and stories.
As we heal that which is not the truth of who we are and blossom into our true selves, we become more joyful and lighter because we drop off fear and conditioned behaviors and step into greater love with our hearts opening more and more to the love and light within us and all around us. I love being on this journey of “Joyful Becoming,” and I feel incredibly blessed and honored to support my clients and students on their journeys to deeper healing and awakening.
I have trained as a Shamanic Practitioner, Reiki Master Teacher, and Strengths Coach, and I love to integrate these and other complimentary modalities to support my clients and students on their journeys to greater levels of healing, empowerment, joy, and connection. I am known for working at a deep level, quickly getting to the root causes of the challenges my clients face, and supporting them in overcoming obstacles to attain higher levels of joy, freedom, and personal power.
I received my Reiki I & II training in 2010 and did my Advanced and Mastery Reiki trainings in 2012. I completed my Advanced Shamanic Practitioner’s training in 2013 and continue to study through annual journeys to work with Shipibo healers in Peru and Wixáritari healers in Mexico. I received a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Yale, a master’s in English from Southern CT State University, and a master’s in Peace & Justice Studies from the University of San Diego.

Hawk & Hummingbird
The names Picaflor Journeys and Red Hawk Healing Sanctuary emerged after a process of deep listening and patient reflection on where I was being guided to take my work. Picaflor is a Spanish word that means hummingbird. It is derived from the combination of two Spanish words: "picar," meaning "to peck," and "flor," meaning "flower." This name reflects the hummingbird's behavior of hovering around and feeding from flowers.
In shamanic traditions worldwide, animal spirits are seen as powerful allies and guides. We can connect to them for support, protection, healing, and guidance. One of the primary guardian spirits of our healing sanctuary is the hawk, hence the name Red Hawk Healing Sanctuary. Those that come to the sanctuary for retreats often will witness the beautiful and majestic view of one or multiple hawks flying overhead.
The spirit of hawk symbolizes strength, vision, guardianship, and protection. Hawks are often seen as messengers from the spirit realm, guiding individuals to pay attention to their intuition and inner wisdom. Additionally, the hawk spirit is associated with freedom, courage, and protection, encouraging individuals to soar to new heights and embrace their personal power.
Hummingbird spirit is connected to both the patriarch of the Wixáritari tradition of Mexico and the matriarch of the Shipibo tradition of Peru that I have studied and trained under. There are numerous tales about the hummingbird in many indigenous traditions. They often tell the story of hummingbird’s perseverance, generosity, love, and joy in working for the greater good and the benefit of the tribe.
Hummingbird spirit symbolizes the ability to find joy in the present moment, reminding us to appreciate the sweetness of life and its beauty. Hummingbirds also symbolize resilience and adaptability, teaching us to remain flexible and resourceful as we navigate challenges. They embody the idea of lightness and playfulness, encouraging us to approach life with a sense of curiosity, wonder, and openness.
It is very surprising that in nature, hawks and hummingbirds are allies and share a beautiful relationship. The hawk soars high above, surveying the land with a watchful eye. In contrast, the hummingbird darts from flower to flower, sipping nectar with an insatiable thirst for life, serving as a beautiful and joyful pollinator and embodying the spirit of boundless energy and vitality.
Despite their apparent differences, hawks and hummingbirds get along very well. The hawk often serves as a protector for the hummingbird and does not prey on it. In fact, hummingbirds often build nests below hawk nests, which protects them from enemies like jays who prey on their nests but don’t dare to come into hawk territory.
This unusual relationship between hawks and hummingbirds plays out in Red Hawk Healing Sanctuary serving as a protective safe haven for the deep inner work we do through Picaflor Journeys. These two spirits work together to hold space for our healing and growth. They remind us of the beauty and power of seemingly opposing elements working together to co-create harmony and being in right relationship. From this beautiful relationship, we learn that we too can find peace, fulfillment, and joy in embracing the full spectrum of our own and others’ strengths and vulnerabilities on the journey of "Joyful Becoming."
